Project Overview

Visitors to the Woodland Park Zoo get a rare, close-up look at tigers and sloth bears in the Banyan Wilds area. Our artisans crafted a wide variety of stylized elements to recreate a Malaysian wildlife sanctuary, including decks, roofs, doors, gutters, siding, and other themed building details. Our team also constructed and installed over 2,000 feet of bamboo fencing and steel bamboo barrier walls to create a safe environment while maintaining a sense of place. We worked with animal handlers to engineer an interactive for the tigers called the “jostle tree.” Our project engineers created a unique mechanism that gives these mighty felines a way to acquire food by scratching and pulling at a faux tree.
