Exhibit Fabrication + Installation

Gulf Islands National Seashore

After exhibits at Fort Pickens Museum at Florida’s Gulf Islands National Seashore on Santa Rosa Island suffered damage during a hurricane, Pacific Studio was selected to replace them. The overriding imperative was to create new exhibits that could withstand harsh tropical storms including periodic flooding, heavy winds and hurricanes. The exhibits were designed to be respectful to the historic nature of the building while providing visitors with a calm and relaxing atmosphere in which they could learn about the formation of the barrier islands and their role in the surrounding ecosystem. Pacific Studio integrated into the final design multisensory elements that offer visitors numerous ways to experience and interact with the material being presented, including audio descriptions and integrated braille graphics. The final installation featured a combination of durable interactives, interpretive graphics, large photomurals, ambient recordings and an aquarium displaying the offshore habitat.
