Boy Scouts of America

Pacific Studio collaborated with Volume, Inc. and Studio Terpeluk to produce the impressive Sustainability Treehouse for the Boy Scouts of America. The 4000-square-foot structure is home to the Scouts’ annual jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Family National Reserve in West Virginia.

The 125-foot-high Treehouse artfully teaches the importance of environmental stewardship in everyday life through hands-on, experiential exhibits. A Rube Goldberg-inspired kinetic ball sculpture encourages energy conservation, while an interactive, cut-away oak tree demonstrates the effects of human activity on the environment. The AIA named the Treehouse one of the top green projects of 2014, praising its “exuberant and expressive design” that is both “contextual and respectful of the site.”
