Aquarium of the Pacific

Our Watersheds: Pathway to the Pacific outdoor exhibit for the Aquarium of the Pacific is an interactive exhibit that tells the story of the San Pedro Bay Basin and inspires visitors to help protect local watersheds. Durable exterior graphics allow visitors to learn more about their impact on water sustainability now and into the future. The centerpiece of this exhibit is a topographic relief map and rainfall interactive: An overhead sprinkler system allows kids to “make it rain,” creating a tactile water environment in which visitors can learn how urbanization affects stream runoff. We utilized colored Corian, as opposed to a painted surface, to ensure water could roll over the map for years on end without diminishing the map’s features.
